About the Book

The Talent War addresses the growing problem faced by managers and bosses over the difficulty of finding and retaining talented employees in this day and age. As Kerry Larkan rightly points out, a rapidly aging population will trigger critical skill shortages and companies will increasingly have to fight harder than ever to attract and keep the best people for their company.

In The Talent War, Kerry Larkan looks at some of the most successful companies with high retention rates and conducts interviews with key managerial figures to understand their policies and attitudes towards hiring and nurturing staff. The Talent War demonstrates, step by step, how to hire the right people (with the right values and character) for your company, how to get the most out of them and how to encourage them to stay!

Foreword (from the book)

The notion that modern business corporations will face an increasingly uphill task in attracting and retaining talented individuals in their company is foreshadowed brilliantly in The Talent War.  Changing demographic trends and a manifestly different workforce with different value systems are the context within which 21st century companies must operate.  For employers, the message is clear: Being a "Good Boss" can no longer be a matter of personal choice or whim.

In The Talent War, Kerry Larkan demonstrates how real, tangible economic benefits can be derived from being an "employer of choice".  The book sets out clearly and conciesely the sort of company policies and employer practices that must be in place in order to create an ideal workplace for employees, and ensure that the best people will want to join and remain in the company.  The Talent War is an essential read for every employer, manager or potential boss.
