Joyce's teaching tapes are enjoyed internationally, and she travels extensively conducting Life In The Word conferences.

Believing the call on her life is to establish believers in God's Word, Joyce says, "Jesus died to set the captives free, and far too many Christians have little or no victory in their daily lives." Finding herself in the same situation many years ago and having found freedom to live in victory through applying God's Word, Joyce goes equipped to set captives free and to exchange ashes for beauty. She believes that every person who walks in victory leads many others into victory. Her life is transparent, and her teachings are practical and can be applied in everyday life.

About the Book

How to Become a Millionaire shows you in an easy-to-read way how to take a few simple steps to financial freedom. The authors explain the eighth wonder of the world, the power of compounding, showing how with relatively small regular savings you can produce a very significant capital sum. Did you know, for example, that with growth at the same rate as the UK stock market over the last 20 years, £5,000 a year would produce £2 million in 25 years? But that is only half the story. By using an ISA mortgage to finance the purchase of your house or flat you can harness two of the world’s best-performing financial assets, property and shares. How to Become a Millionaire shows you how to set them to work for you at the same time. And believe it or not, the capital profits you make on both will be tax free! Endowment mortgages should be avoided like the plague. If you are already saddled with one, the authors show you how to calculate whether or not to run it to maturity and how to get the best price if you decide to surrender the policy. There is no need to worry about the complexities of the stock market. You will be shown how to invest in tracker funds or a simple high-yield system that will take you less than an hour a year to use. If you want to become a more active investor, the authors give you a taste of the two most popular methods and point you in the right direction to progress further. There is no need to fantasise about winning the lottery. Written by Jim Slater, one of the country’s leading investment experts, and Tom Stevenson, the former City Editor of Independent, this book is a clear blueprint for making your first million. It really could be you.

Product Description

The universal laws of business success . . . no matter whether you are selling fruit from a stand or running a Fortune 500 company.

Have you ever noticed that the business savvy of the world's best CEOs seems like a kind of street smarts? They sense where the opportunities are and how to take advantage of them. And their companies make money consistently, year after year.

How different is it to run a big company than to sell fruit from a cart or run a small shop in a village? In essence, not very, according to Ram Charan. From his childhood in India, where he worked in his family's shoe shop, to his education at Harvard Business School and his daily work advising many of the world's best CEOs, Ram understands business as few can.

The best CEOs have a knack for bringing the most complex business down to the fundamentals -- the same fundamentals of the family shoe shop. They have business acumen -- the ability to focus on the basics and make money for the company.

What the CEO Wants You to Know captures these insights and explains in clear, simple language how to do what great CEOs do instinctively and persistently:

* Understand the basic building blocks of a business and use them to figure out how your company makes money and operates as a total business.
* Decide what to do, despite the clutter of day-to-day business and the complexity of the real world.

Many people spend more than a hundred thousand dollars on an MBA without learning to pull these pieces of the puzzle together. Many others lack a formal business education and feel shut out from the executive suite. What the CEO Wants You to Know takes the mystery out of business and shows the secrets of success used by business legends like Jack Welch of GE.

Foreword by Larry Burkett
Preface

Introduction: From Chaos to Order
- Ken's parents divorce
- His early job was a Page boy (he was 15 years old) with the Capitol Page School where he would deliver messages for the United States Congressmen.
* Not-so-innocent Beginnings
- Ken was introduced into drinking and used it as an escapade from his pains.
- He treated drinking as a friend as it allows him to feel like an adult, gave him a sense of power. - His carefree life affected his grades but he recognizes the need to rectify them, so he enrolled himself to a military prep school, Bolles School in Jacksonville.
- The discipline did gave him good grades which eventually led him to scholarship offers.
- He went to Tulane University, New Orleans (her mother's and uncle's alma mater).
- Spoke briefly about Ken's mother religious fervor (tithing of 10%) .
- Got married and mentioned about him joining & dismissal from the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (because he was married!).
- His dismissal from the Navy ROTC was a blow to him.
- He moved on to read law and settled life as a married man with 2 kids.
- Again mentioned drinking was his only escapade.
- Money was tight and he needs to pass the Bar when an opportunity to be invited to the Bar (where 1st time pass attempt was uncommon then)
- He bargained with God so the he could pass his admission to Virginia Bar on the first attempt. - He did pass and was admitted, so begin his life in the legal profession.
* A Successful Failure
- His life was "successful" but the time away from home took its tool on the family relationships.
- He was divorced with his wife and re-visited to drinking again.
- He stopped going to church.
* Life at the Bottom
- Constant drinking and a deep depression settled over him!
- He was suicidal and life became meaningless!
- Again when things were at the lowest, he found comfort in seeking God.
- He started attending church and fellow believers advised him to "Read the Bible and Pray".
* The Turning Point
- He attended a church and the young priest was asking the congregation to give up something for "Lent".
- The example the priest cited was drinking!
- Again, he bargained with God and he knew God was always there for him.
- So he found new strength to combat his alcohol addiction.
- His prayer was answered and he slowly but surely overcome the thirst for alcohol to the hunger & replaced it with a thirst for God's righteousness.
- It began to grown in him that he would rise early in the morning to spend time reading the Bible.
* Light in other Corners
- His drinking problem fixed, he began to let God deal with the other areas of his life.
- Bit by bit, his chaotic and disorganized life became orderly!
- He learn about God's principles to the management of his finances.
- He attended a Christian Money Management Seminar and started budgeting his money by arranging his finances to eliminate all of his personal debt.
- He began tithing and reduces his expenditures in order to increase his offering to God.
- He also began to share and teach other fellow believers about the principles of Christian money management.
- Thus evolves the birth of CSM (Christian Stewardship Ministries) which conducts both time & money management seminars.
- Questions asked to the readers: Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour?
- Encourage the readers to accept the fact that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for the sins when He died upon the cross and that His resurrection from the grave symbolized the new life the reader is able to begin with god.
- Say a simple prayer:-
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, and I understand that the penalty for sin is death and eternal separation from God. I know, Lord, that You paid the penalty for my sin - that You were crucified in my place, and that only through the shedding of Your blood is it possible for my sins to be forgiven. I ask, Lord, for forgiveness and cleansing through Your blood, and i acknowledge You as Lord and Savior of my life.  Help me, Lord, to live close to you every day of my life. Amen.

Part I: There's Nothing You and God Together Can't Do
1 Obedience: The Key to Fulfillment
- "My Way" (brief mentioned of Frank Sinatra's song & how many people identified with its message) versus "God's Way" (obedience to God)
- Without an attitude of obedience and a desire to follow God's leading, we will never achieve true success.
- Obedience isn't always easy, but always beneficial.
- The Biblical concept of the authority of the believer shows that He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world.
- The Scriptures had specific application to a very tangible point in the author's life.
- Urge vs Habit.
- Urge had always defeated the author many times.
- When the Urge was gone, even with the habit still existing, the author conquered and kick away  his smoking.
- The author learned the importance of obedience and the availability of the power of God to ai those who are determined to obey.
1.1. Obedience is the Foundation of Success
- Obey is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22)
- God will give His Holy Spirit ONLY to those who obey Him (Acts 5:32)
- To make Christ the Lord of our lives is to engage in a process - a never-ending process - of becoming the person He wants each of us to become.
- God has a plan for each day of our lives (Psalm 139)
- Our job is to discover that plan on a daily basis.
- Obedience consists of :- 1) Discovering the Plan; and 2) Doing our part to implement that plan.
- Obedience is an attitude, either obey or not!
- We have an attitude of obedience - a spirit-deep commitment to being the person God wants us to be - we can conquer disobedience.
- In order to do that, must spend time with God.
- Get to know Him well enough so that we understand what He wants us to do and when He wants us to do it.
- First, think of some things you presently do that you should not be doing and vice versa.
- Secondly, determine what it is about this area that is actually disobedient.
1.2. Why is Obedience so Important?
- Important to identify those areas of disobedience and try to determine what it is about those areas that displeases God.
- Question: "Why should I worry so much about whether I'm living in obedience?"
- Answer 1: Positive side, Obedience pleases God and brings His Blessings (Deuteronomy), Disobedience forces us to miss out on some things entirely and brings a delay in our enjoyment of other things.
- Answer 2: Negative side, We reap the consequences and pain of disobedience.
- There may be pain and suffering in obedience, but it would be temporary and the obedience brought tremendous benefits your way.
- On the other hand, the pain that comes from disobedience is the kind that will not let go of you  and lasts longer.
1.3. How can I Become Obedient?
1) Recognize Disobedience
- Acknowledge that you are disobedient.
- List out areas of disobedience, of relationships need to work on, health-related issues, and other things should improve on in the journey with God.
2) Reflect on the Significance of Disobedience
- Take time to seriously think through the significance of each areas.
- Reflect on the consequences of disobedience in your life and in the lives of others.
3) Confess and Request Forgiveness

4) Repent
5) Change
6) Relinquish Areas of Disobedience
1.4. Developing God-Directed Discipline
1.5. Obedience in Fasting
1.6. Obedience in Tithing
1.7. Practice Obedience
1) List five areas of your life where you know you could do a better job of living in obedience to God's will.
2) How has your disobedience in these areas impacted upon your life?
3) How has your disobedience in these areas impacted upon the lives of others?
4) Why are these 5 areas particularly difficult for you?

Amazon.com Review

You have heard about how a musician loses herself in her music, how a painter becomes one with the process of painting. In work, sport, conversation or hobby, you have experienced, yourself, the suspension of time, the freedom of complete absorption in activity. This is "flow," an experience that is at once demanding and rewarding--an experience that Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi demonstrates is one of the most enjoyable and valuable experiences a person can have. The exhaustive case studies, controlled experiments and innumerable references to historical figures, philosophers and scientists through the ages prove Csikszentmihalyi's point that flow is a singularly productive and desirable state. But the implications for its application to society are what make the book revolutionary.

From Library Journal

Aristotle observed 2300 years ago that more than anything men and women seek happiness. Csikszentmihalyi (psychology, Univ. of Chicago) has for 25 years made similar observations regarding "flow," a field of behavioral science examining connections between satisfaction and daily activities. A flow state ensues when one is engaged in self-controlled, goal-related, meaningful actions. Data regarding flow were collected on thousands of individuals, from mountain climbers to chess players. This thoroughly researched study is an intriguing look at the age-old problem of the pursuit of happiness and how, through conscious effort, we may more easily attain it. Recommended for general readers.
- Terry McMaster, Utica Coll. of Syracuse Univ. Lib., N.Y .

Other Reviews

"An intriguing look at the age-old problem of human happiness." -- --Library Journal

"Documents a set of scientific discoveries about human nature that actually illuminates the life experiences of all persons." -- --Howard Gardner, author of Frames of Mind

"It rethinks what motivates people." -- --Newsweek

More on the Book

What really makes people glad to be alive? What are the inner experiences that make life worthwhile? For more than two decades Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi studied those states in which people report feelings of concentration and deep enjoyment. His studies revealed that what makes experience genuinely satisfying is 'flow' - a state of concentration so focused that it amounts to complete absorption in an activity and results in the achievement of a perfect state of happiness. Flow has become the classic work on happiness and a major contribution to contemporary psychology. It examines such timeless issues as the challenge of lifelong learning; family relationships; art, sport and sex as 'flow'; the pain of loneliness; optimal use of free time; and how to make our lives meaningful.

About the Author

Mihaly Csikszentimihalyi lives in California, where he holds a post at the Peter Drucker Graduate School of Management, Claremont Graduate University

From Library Journal

Drawing on his experiences as a minister, counselor, and parent, Isaacson has devised a theory for understanding oneself and others called the Birth Order Effect. The theory hinges on five personality types, or Birth Order Personalities, that the author makes clear are different from Alfred Adler's four categories. While there is often a correlation between chronological birth date and Birth Order Personality, that is not always the case. For instance, first-born children may exhibit characteristics of Isaacson's Birth Order Personality First Born, but they may also show signs of Birth Order Personality Only Children. Early chapters present several quizzes so that readers can identify their personality type. The author then describes each type and explains how it applies to parenting, marriage, and work skills. The book is written in the approachable, conversational tone of a popular magazine article. Unfortunately, Isaacson omits a bibliography and any evidence of research methodology to support his theory. Confusion may also result from his use of the term birth order personality and studies that Isaacson has previously read about chronological birth order. Not recommended. Amazon.com Review

The idea that blood type plays a role in health, wellness, and personality wasn't exactly new when Dr. Peter D'Adamo came out with Eat Right 4 Your Type in 1997. The idea had been around for most of the 19th century, and had gained quite a bit of currency in Japan. But it was a startling idea to most Americans, who made the book a bestseller that was translated into more than 40 languages and spawned a similarly successful sequel, Cook Right 4 Your Type.
Now, Dr. D'Adamo--armed with new studies on genetic links between blood types, disease, and behavior--looks at the psychological and medical peculiarities that seem to predominate in one blood type or another. Type O's, for example, have lower than average amounts of a brain chemical called dopamine, leading to poor concentration, hyperactivity, and temper tantrums. A's tend to manufacture too much cortisol, a stress hormone that can lead to hypertension and has even been implicated in Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Type B's and AB's clear nitric oxide out of their systems faster, allowing them to calm down more rapidly than other blood types when stressed.

Dr. D'Adamo offers detailed lifestyle modifications for each type, including exercise programs, long lists of food to either seek out or avoid, and suggested treatment of specific illnesses. Some of this gets pretty arcane, including his recommendation of bladder wrack (a seaweed) for ulcer treatment of Type O's.

A big part of the appeal of this book series is that anyone reading it can become a participant by joining Dr. D'Adamo's blood-type registry at www.dadamo.com. Live Right for Your Type is peppered with testimonials from these registrants, giving the reader a sense that a true transformation in health, appearance, weight, and well-being is just a few diet and lifestyle changes away. --Lou Schuler

From Publishers Weekly

Author of the bestselling Eat Right 4 Your Type, D'Adamo delves more deeply into the influence of blood type in this follow-up volume, claiming not only that it determines the way individuals should eat, but also the way they should live. For each blood type he offers an extensive "prescription" for lifestyle changes, covering such issues as exercise, stress relief and sleep patterns, as well as supplements and foods. Type O, for instance, is advised to eat red meat and engage in aerobic exercise, while Type A is advised to focus on vegetables and try yoga. D'Adamo identifies the medical risk factors for each blood type, pointing out that, for example, As and ABs are at greater risk for developing cancer, while Os may be more vulnerable to mood disorders or destructive behaviors. In addition to his "prescriptions for living," D'Adamo offers a soup-to-nut diet plan for each blood type, complete with explanations of why various foods work for or against the body. While D'Adamo's plan is meticulously researched, readers may balk at the complexity not only of his text but also of the diet itself, which may create kitchen clashes when individuals of several blood types share meals. This comprehensive, fascinating theory will suit the nutrition-committed, but readers seeking a quick fix to weight and health problems may be left in a daze. (Jan.)

From Booklist

Many patients and physicians have wished for a way to quantify pain as we do the other vital signs--blood pressure, temperature, heart beat, and respiration. Jackson explores the history, variety, acknowledgment, and treatment of pain, the fifth vital sign, accessibly and sympathetically, lending the subject personalism by citing her own experiences of pain, which range from a bee sting to her open mouth to anesthetic failure in the middle of a dental operation. She also mines the medical annals, citing such authorities as S. Weir Mitchell and William Livingston, and various literary works. Her interviews with pain experts make lively reading as she queries the likes of Angela Mailis of the Comprehensive Pain Program in Toronto, and Frank Adams, who was found guilty of "medical incompetence and unprofessional conduct" for humanely treating his patients' pain. Finally, her account of the Ninth World Congress on the Study of Pain, in Vienna, graphically depicts the complexity of a large meeting. Other Reviews

“Jackson is an ideal guide for this exploration. With her personal and personable perspective, she acts as a surrogate for the reader, simplifying complex issues (both philosophical and technical) and humanizing often abstract concepts. Jackson leavens this very serious subject matter with a wicked and subversive sense of humour.” -- Quill and Quire

“One might think there was nothing new to say about pain, but Pain: The Fifth Vital Sign is a work of real originality and freshness, full of insights which seem both startling and obvious.” -- Oliver Sacks, MD

“Jackson’s book is a timely and necessary contribution to this important dialogue.” -- The Globe and Mail

About the Book

Pain. Everyone experiences it, yet we have trouble talking about it and science has only recently begun to understand how it works. Pain: The Fifth Vital Sign is a groundbreaking inquiry into the nature, treatment, and definition of modern pain.

In the United States, there has been a recent campaign to treat pain as the fifth vital sign. Just as temperature, respiration, pulse, and blood pressure, the four traditional vital signs, must be charted, hospitals are now obliged to assess pain in their patients, too. If this indeed happens, it will be nothing less than groundbreaking—making pain far more visible.

But how has it come about that we spend $24 billion a year in North America on Tylenol, Advil, and the rest, and yet chronic pain is on the rise? Why is it that medicine can master intrauterine surgery but it can’t help people with bad backs or migraines? Pain is the number one reason why people go to the doctor’s office, and the number one reason they come away disappointed.

For a long time, pain has been a dark continent, both in the body and in our culture.

However, medicine is finally learning to evaluate pain as something more than a symptom—a main focus rather than a frustrating side issue for doctors. In the questing and narrative manner of an Oliver Sacks “neurological novel” or Sherwin Nuland’s inquiry into dying, Pain: The Fifth Vital Sign maps this largely unexplored territory through the stories of people who live with pain—from fibromyalgia to phantom limb pain—as well as the words of pioneers of pain research, and the professional experiences of doctors, scientists, and nurses.

Above all, Pain: The Fifth Vital Sign makes an elusive subject vivid and readable. We all know what pain is. Now it has a voice.
